Requirements: Session 1 - Getting Started with your machine and supplies: 1. Expectation and goals for this class 2. Review tools and supplies Needed: a. Machine Needles vs Hand Needles b. Thread c. Pins, straight, safety, pin cushions d. Rotary Cutter, Mat and Ruler e. Rulers and Tape Measure f. Scissors g. Notions (pin cushion, seam ripper, marking devices, tape measure, etc) 3. Set up Sewing Machine a. Parts of your machine b. Power cords and foot control c. Threading your machine d. Winding a bobbin and loading it correctly f. Pressure Feet and which one we will be using g. Checking Tension 4. Handout Pillowcase pattern (free - online) 5. Homework - Fabric, thread, needles, scissors, seam ripper, rotary cutter, mat & ruler Session 2 - Cutting out pillowcase and sewing a. Review Pattern - Choosing main, cuff and accent fabrics b. Review selvage, raw edge, layout options c. Review step out samples d. Cut fabric e. Layout and pin f. Sew cuff - turn inside out g. French Seam - side and bottom h. Turn inside out and press i. Homework - PJ shorts or pants fabric, elastic, thread and pattern Sessions 3 & 4 a. Review pattern b. Layout pattern pieces and markings to adjust for size c. Pin pattern to fabric. Cut out with rotary cutter and scissors d. Sewing seams e. Sewing waistband and inserting elastic f. Heming pants/shorts g. Review, questions and next steps
